Caper plant grows in the wild in Sicily. It occurs in hard to reach areas and on steep slopes. What we commonly call capers are really not completely opened flower buds, while the actual caper berry is called ‘cucunci’. They are one of the most popular spices in the range of flavours of southern Italy. Capers preserved in salt are suitable for seasoning salads, fish and meat. They blend well with eggs, potatoes, and are a key component of fish-based sauces. So as not to have them too salty, it is advisable to thoroughly rinse them before consumption.
Keep in a dry place away from the sources of light.
