Nougat is a traditional treat typical of Sicilian festivals, local feasts and games, when “turrunari” at their colourful stands would prepare, with great commitment and art, delicious, fragrant roasted nuts and dried fruit with caramel and - torrone. All of this would happen in the sight of the public - curious, and tempted by the well known smell of caramelised sugar and roasted almonds, nuts and pistachios. Only a few simple ingredients are needed to prepare this delicacy. Roasted almonds, sugar and honey from the Hyblean Mountains are slowly simmered until the mass reaches adequate consistency. All of it is put on hard, marble top, it is moulded by hand and cut before the sugar hardens completely.
Keep in a cool and dry place, away from the sources of heat.
Nougat can be served for dessert after the main course, or as an addition to the afternoon tea or coffee.
